HEALTH and SAFETY:
One of the characteristics that make GREENE-BOARD environmentally friendly is the lack of any V.O.C.s (volatile organic compounds) in the products composition. What this means to a homeowner is that there isnt anything inside of GREENE-BOARD that can harm your family.
Cement based tile backers contain silica. Silica (silicon dioxide) dust when inhaled over time can lead to silicosis (an occupational lung disease), bronchitis or cancer. The dust becomes lodged in the lungs and continuously irritates them; reducing lung capacities (silica does not dissolve over time).
Gypsum based tile backers also contain silica but these products also use harsh chemicals to achieve qualities such as mould and fungus protection that GREENE-BOARD achieves without the addition of chemicals.
GREENE-BOARD has a ph level that inhibits mould and mildew growth. When tested by ASTM standards it achieved the highest rating possible; all this without the addition of chemicals. GREENE-BOARD also has the highest rating against fungus growth. It lacks a paper backing and therefore there arent any nutrients for fungus, vermin or termites to feed off of; once again without the addition of chemicals. This all translates to a healthier and safer home for your family.
COST:
GREENE-BOARD is a premium product but it is still in the same price range as competitive products and is significantly less expensive than polyethylene alternatives but still offers extreme moisture, mould and fungus protection. Compared to cement based products GREENE-BOARD is easier to install and reduces installation time. Compared to gypsum based products GREENE-BOARD is more durable and will last longer not needing to be replaced.
Consider this scenario. Your basement floods and there is two inches of water on your floor. The water is absorbed into your drywall and the drywall becomes bloated, soft and has to be replaced. Once the mess is cleaned up what do you replace your damaged drywall with? More drywall is the answer that most people give because they dont know that there is another option. GREENE-BOARD has a smooth paintable side that can be taped and used just like regular drywall. It is extremely moisture resistant and if it does eventually absorb water it doesnt swell or turn to mush. Added on to this is the fact that mould, mildew and fungus doesnt form on it and the only thing you may have to do is repaint it.
